Windows vista slow network performance

I also think my FTP is running very slow, but i have only tried on one server and i will try another to see if there is a difference. Is there an actual solution to this problem??? Any help would be reaaaaally appreciated if not i'll just switch back to xp and eat the cd of vista.

My new Vista computer has been slow on the internet since I got it two weeks ago. I also have tried many things and talked to many people. The issue is finally resolved for me. The modem was between the computer and the router. I put the router so that no electronic devices the modem was in the way of the signal. After all lights were on the modem and router I plugged in and turned on the computer. The computer has been working great for two days.

Praise the Lord. The coming up question is "what is the replacement for McAfee? I've recently installed Vista and was aware of the potential problem with internet speed, initailly all was fine then suddenly the internet slowed to dial-up speed, I checked back with event viewer and realised the problem started when an Update Windows Vista KB installed itself, I uninstalled this update and the problem vanished, don't ask me why or what this update is supposed to do, but uninstalling it fixed things for me.

I had the same problem with a new Compaq laptop and Windows Vista Home. The culprit eventually was the security suite offered by Cox Communication. Once I uninstalled it and then added the free AVG antivirus everything ran smoothly. The previously mentioned was installed and made no difference in my case. It is odd that I did not even have the anti-phishing or parental control portion of the security suite installed on the laptop and the Authentium software still slowed me down.

After playing with my antivirus and firewall it finally clicked, what has changed since purchased my new machine and it ran so quickly on the internet. Come on Microsoft get your act together and let us know which update is causing this prblem and how you intend to fix it.

So to all you ot there running Vista with slow internet remove all your updated updates. I have been reading all these posts about slow internet. Has anyone deleted cookies, temp files, history? How about disk clean-up and defrag? These work wonders to speed things up. It should be done every days, at least. I do mine maually.

My internet zips right along all the time. I have an HP slimline 1gig memory, gig hd. Have had it about a yr now. I've done a defrag, and have cleaned out cookies a couple different times. No improvment. I am really disappointed with Vista because of this. Bruce N. Baker - MSFT wrote: There are many reasons why slow internet problems can potentially occur, 3rd party products can often create problems as can many many other things.

With that said, the best approach is to contact main MS support or your computer vendor if you continue to have problems, often they may know about what product might create the problem and have a solution for you. Could the MSFT post possibly be less helpful? Your solution - 'it may be someone else's fault. I have called Verizon, Lynksys, and Dell, and spent hours on the phone with them -- they all say that it is a Vista problem.

Although I can't get on the internet at home, your post gives me comfort that there are "many many other things" that could create a problem on a brand new computer. Seems like the common one that is causing the problem for people everywhere is Vista. Thanks for your help and all of the great suggestions Bruce! I changed my power settings for my wireless adapter from Maximum Power Saving to Maximum Performance and my internet speed is now back to normal Look on the top left it will say view installed updates click the link, a list will appear with all the updates, select one or as many as you want then uninstall.

I just got a new Dell machine on Vista Business and have intermittent cut outs of my internet connection i. Renders the internet very slow and VPN unusable.

This only occurs with this particular modem; same problem does not occur on this computer at friends house with a different DSL modem or at work.

Have spent hrs trying to find a solution for this! Pretty frustrated at both Microsoft for the useless operating system not the first problem I've had with vista and at DLink for selling a product which does not even state that it isn't compatible with Vista.

Phoned DLink and was told "buy a new modem"; how much crappier tech service can you get?? I am using Vista home premium and my download speeds are slower than my othe laptop that is running Xp checked online. I can get kb speeds with the xp and only kb on vista, even though vista is running on a more powerful system. I really like the look of vista compared to xp and wish that microsoft would look into this problems on these pages and come up with a solution for us.

It seems that I have tried everything but can't seem to improve the speed. I found that AVG was making my internet slow, i dont know why but its fast now. Although the arp table seems to be wrong still, browsing has sped right up.

I have AOL broadband etc. I fixed it in no time. Uninstalled IE 9 and went back to IE 8, no problems now? Hoave ypou solved anything? I am running Windows Vista Premium with service pack 2 installed. I have AVG software running too. This recently happened to me, also on Vista. I run two computers the other Windows 10 off of the same router.

Windows 10 computer was averaging between 60 and 70 Mbps on router 99 in one test direct to modem ; Windows Vista machine was running between roughly 7. After mainly struggles, thought it was a router problem, but it was not! The answer in my case was that my anti-virus program, AVG, was the culprit.

I have the same problem and am looking for a solution Wednesday, March 14, PM. After numerous hours on the phone with my manufacturer downloading patches, resetting the machine etc , we finally discovered that the problem was indeed McAfee.

More specifically, it was the Phishing Filter. I just had to go back into McAfee to disable the annoying messages that I wasn't fully protected. Hope this helps.

Tuesday, March 20, PM. Have tried just about everything there is to try.. Anyone else? Same issues here - brand new computer running vista - can take up to a half hour to load some pages.

Downloading anything right now isn't even an option.. Thursday, March 22, PM. Saturday, March 24, PM. Ramon Pfabeo. Sunday, March 25, PM. Both connections give the same slow speeds! Sunday, April 1, AM. Guys I love you all. Advised my girlfreind to buy her new laptop from Dell. SP1 did have a favorable impact. But issues remain. It might be the best I can get for now. I am going to continue testing. I'll report back my findings. Thanks everyone for your help! Barry, see my system specs below. I also run a Vista 64 laptop.

The desktop, described below, is linked into a Linksys wireless router via ethernet. The laptop is linked in via wireless and is used primarily from my den downstairs router is in office on second floor. Both have the latest updates, including SP1. The only hint I can give is to shut down the useless User Access Control.

That seemed to cause all kinds of unintended consequences I have not clue as to whether it will fix your transfer issue, but it can't hurt. If that lot doesn't work, try disabling IPv6 on your network adapter. With my old PC, this cured some connection and speed problems with FSInn, which itself is a very sophisticated network application.

Thanks for the information. I believe Simconnect uses IPv4. Maybe it is confused or having to go through the other layer, thus causing the performance slowdown.

I am wondering if Simconnect can use IPv6? I believe it is a changable parameter in the Simconnect configuration file. Thanks again! I'll test it this evening and report back. I made the change unchecking IPv6 protocol. Does SimConnect support the IPv6 protocol? Vista is really frustrating me AS far as networking. I like it for FSX and what it adds to performance. I open a 1K file on the Vista 64 OS shared folder, I change one character, and Save it out, and it takes sometimes longer seconds to save it.

But from Vista to Vista is where the bottleneck is. I am administrator! You need to be a member in order to leave a comment. Sign up for a new account in our community.
