How to update firmware panasonic lumix

Hello there, I have a GF7 but cannot see any updates available — have none been offered or am I looking in the wrong place? Cox On Feb. Harvey, from what I can find there does not seem to be any firmware updates for the GF7. I have 6 Panasonic lenses. Cox On May. I have bought another card and downloaded the software again. Any ideas? Have you tried calling the Panasonic help line? Let me know and if you have and still are having trouble I will reach out to a Lumix friend for added support. Garry Kiefer On Jan.

When you update firmware on the GH4 do the configurations settings that I made revert back to factory settings? Yes, unfortunately they do Garry. In the newer cameras, both gH5 and G9, they now have an option to save all our Custom settings to an SD card that we can reimport.

Gary Urban On Nov. Nick On Nov. Tell a nasty story. When you update lens Panasonic mm firmware 1. Now at the start of the GH4 camera lens is not working but the camera displays the firmware to the latest 1.

How can I reflash again the firmware? The answer is not found. Not sure what to tell you Nick. It sounds like the camera and lens need to be looked at by Panasonic. Are you in the States. If so let me know and I will send you info for who and where to send your gear to. If I could get the firmware with a higher version such as m 1.

Nick, unfortuantely I have no idea where you will find an older version of firmware downloads I cant be more help. John McH On Oct. Appreciate the instructions in the blog, Dan. Just updated my new-to-me mm lens to ver 1. Worked like a charm! I was somewhat hesitant to begin the update because the extracted. But after downloading numerous times and getting the same sized extracted file, I was pretty confident that the entire file had been downloaded and extracted properly.

Thanks again for the post. Ben Greenberg On Oct. Thanks so much for providing this information. I followed your guide and successfully updated my G8 camera body firmware without a hitch. The lens shipped with frimware version 1. Ben, this is a mystery to me. I have no idea why so many people have such difficulty getting firmware updates to install. I appreciate you writing in. If you want to go the route of sending your camera in I can send you a direct contact. Let me know. Sorry for this painful process.

Robert Gonzales On Sep. I tried to follow your steps including having a couple of photos on the sd card etc for updating the firmware for the lens and it will not start. The Panasonic website is totally worthless. I tried to direct connect the camera with lens attached to my pc to try the update from the Panasonic support site, but no go. It will not even start. However, updating Olympus lens with this direct connect method is very easy.

Any suggestions. Robert, sorry to hear of your problems with getting your firmware updated. I recently did two mm Leica zooms. Both I followed the directions I have on my Blog that you refer to. The first one took the firmware and updated the first try. The second lens I had to take the SD card out of the camera several times and on probably the third time when I pushed the Play button the camera finally found the file and imported it.

Please try the procedures outlined on my Blog again, and keep trying the Play button, maybe as many as ten times to see if it finally connects.

Dejan On Aug. I just would like to inform you and yours readers what happened with my updating. So, finally I have the newest 2. I hope it can help someone with the same update problems.

Dejan, Sorry for the late reply. I have heard of people having trouble updating if there is not at least one photo on the card. Sounds strange and I have no idea why this sometimes is necessary but I mentioned in my Firmware Update blog that it can be helpful to download the Firmware update and then shoot a photo on the same card as the update is on. I have no idea why this works and quite frankly I feel this is strange, to say the least.

However, it may explain why the Update window popped up for you after a week of shooting. Glad you are up and running. Once again please accept my apologies for not being able to help you sooner. Dejan On Jul. I believe I did exactly what I supposed to do for installing update.

I have body firmware 2. I have fully charged original battery. I have tried it for several times and always got same results. I also wanted to try first to update with older version of firmware 2. On official Panasonic websites I can find only ver.

Cox On Jul. I checked with one of my colleagues at Panasonic and the following is what he suggests. Very simple — he is not following one of the first steps we mention. His camera is likely updated — have him check the version in the MENU screen.

The instructions state to have photos on the SD cards — he does not. After a successful update, the camera reboots and enters the PLAY mode. The message says nothing about not being able to update the camera, nor does it say it failed. The truth is, the photos are NOT required, but we got so many calls about this misunderstood message that I added it as a step many years ago.

I did tried to do update also with one, two and more pictures on my SD card. But only result was that camera showed me the pic s I did before, without any update process. My camera still has Body Firmware Ver. I believe I do exactly what I supposed to do for successful update according to determined procedure from Panasonic company. If it can help to solve this problem I can also do the pic of every step I do in the update process.

I would be very happy if you or your friend from Panasonic can help me to solve the update problem. Mike On Jul. I would have never thought I would need to reach out to anyone to update firmware not to sound too arrogant about it , but here I am, pleading for some assistance.

It goes straight to photo playback. The latest version for M. Firmware update is not required. Not a problem Mike. Miguel Tejada-Flores On May. This was truly helpful, Daniel. Just used it to update the firmware on my new used, really, but new to me Lumix GX8 — with my Mac Desktop — and the whole thing worked like a charm.

Many, many, many and real thanks! Dee On Mar. Thanks so much for sharing this! My GX7 is now happily updated to the lasted firmware version. Thanks again! But t did work! James Segwell On Dec. Am hoping you are the person that can solve a wee problem for me. I have the GH3 with the last v1.

Problem is as the camera is recognizing the same firmware number it refuses to re-install it again. Is there a way to trick the camera into re-installing the firmware.

Much appreciated. Cox On Dec. James, I hate to give you bad news but I have no idea how to solve your problem. Why is that important? Alan Pearce On Nov. I am trying to update my lens without success.

I am using a MAC. Every time I download the file it is smaller than shown. File size should be actually but it does say its the ES Can you help? Alan, have you tried loading the file that did download. All I know is it worked fine for e and it was the same size download you say is a problem. Have you tried updating the. Daniel Lazar On Nov. Any ideas will be most appreciated. The bin file is extracted from the downloaded file.

Agustin On Dec. Hi, nice to meet you. I tried everything exactly as you said. Did you find a solution? If in the US I could have suggested a contact for you. Let me check with Panasonic here in the US to see if they have someone you can contact in Argentina. Thank you Daniel. Thanks for your time. Hope this helps others too. Daniel On Jan. Hi Daniel, thanks for your help. I uploaded this to my SD card and the camera did the update when it was set to playback mode.

Emilio On Sep. The firmware you want to download should work just fine with your camera. The GX85 and GX80 are identical. Not totally sure about your questions regarding PAL. IF your camera does not have PAL option now, the firmware will not give you that option,. Lean S. On Oct. Thank you for your very helpful instructions! I face the same troubleshooting. I keep on following every step, but no indication comes up when I press the play button.

Michael Shapiro On Sep. Hi Dan! About to update the firmware in my GX-8, which still has version 1. Do I need to update in chronological order, or does the latest update include all of the previous updates? Not sure if this works like an OS update, where everything is included in the latest iteration….

I would be very surprised if it was necessary to do all updates to get the latest update. Should be by tomorrow at the latest. Good question. In other words, you are safe to use the most current update to get whatever you missed in the past.

The latest update contains all updates you will need. Val Straw On Sep. Why is it so complicated and badly described — come on Panasonic, give us some clear, simple instructions please!

Could not agree more Val. Thanks for adding your voice. Daniel On Aug. While the firmware update was happening, via SD card, the camera turned off. I immediately tried turning it back on. The green light went on, but the camera is making a clicking noise and the LED screen keeps going in and out.

Hopefully you can help me out and point me in the right direction of getting my GH4 working again. Thanks again Dan. I read about the new GX8 update and tried to complete it without training wheels. I think I should bookmark it this time for the next time I forget how to do it. Dave Thomas On Jun. I have used the oldest, slowest card I have, I have taken 1, 2, 3 and even 4 pictures after formatting the card, I have charged the battery for days, then put it right on and tried this..

I have the. Help me please! I did the firmware update just this morning and it went well. The instructions here are not to put it in a folder but we were unable to move it from that folder. So success! Yvonne, thanks for the updated info. Will take a look for a further update. Bill Stormont On Apr. I finally updated the GH4 firmware this evening; following your instructions, it worked fine. No errors anywhere. Yes, the files are smaller, but…Wow.

Trent Anderson On Apr. Thank you Dan, as always, for walking us through the update maze. I had no problems updating the camera bodies but have hit a brick wall trying to update to ver.

The download time, when I click on the download page, is a mili-second and the resulting file extracted from the zip is a ES I even had a friend, in Florida, download the file on her computer and mail me the zip file and had the same results.

Hold the presses! I was taking a shower, a most enlightening time for me, and I wondered if not having the actual lens on the camera would make a difference. Glad to have helped Trent: Good news is your shower was short so that helps you guys in California since you can use all the water you can get. And better yet your lens has the most current firmware update. Thanks for reaching out. I did send Panasonic a note and Robert Kozlarek sent the response below.

Maybe this will help others that run in to a similar issue. There is no problem at all.. He did the update verify by checking the menu , but he failed to have at least one photo on the SD card.

David Salahi On Apr. Dan, thanks so much for these instructions. But thanks to this guide I got through it painlessly! Thank you so much for the kind words David. Happy to help. Hopefully, comments like yours will help them realize they need to do better. Barry On Apr. Thanks Dan for this, which helped ease my GX8 firmware update.

I found that extracting the. Bill Burkholder On Apr. It takes a lot of time and effort and support structures to make computer interfaces simple for users. We should all demand better. The good news is that the camera that came out two years ago is a better camera now than it was then! In my attempt to update the lens and camera firmware, I was consistently told to add two images to the newly formatted card before proceeding to download the new firmware.

If I remember correctly, Copy does not work but dragging file does…Dan you may want to check that out. Both times the upload began to proceed. So if one way worked for you and one did not, there is something else going on.

Bill Stormont On Mar. Charlie Hoke On Mar. Dan, I did an update before reading your very thorough instructions, and it was a nightmare! Panasonic needs to fix this, just an awful experience.
